Lead and Equip

This role primarily focuses on coaching and developing volunteers, with minimal direct teaching. You’ll equip classroom teams to teach the Bible effectively, create welcoming environments, and partner with parents in the discipleship of their children.

We’re looking for someone who prepares ahead, communicates clearly, follows through consistently, and takes ownership. You should be comfortable encouraging volunteers, holding them accountable, and adapting as the needs of the ministry change.

What You’ll Do

  • Recruit, train, coach, and support volunteers while developing leaders who can help the ministry grow.
  • Maintain dependable volunteer schedules and prepare classroom teams ahead of Sunday.
  • Keep classrooms, supplies, and resources organized and ready to use.
  • Oversee engaging, age-appropriate Bible curriculum. We currently use Grow Curriculum, with room to adapt and improve.
  • Establish consistent parent communication and provide support for discipleship at home.
  • Partner with our Safety Crew to maintain secure environments and follow child-safety procedures.
  • Plan and coordinate VBS, PreTeen Camp, and childcare for church activities.
  • Manage ministry budgets, records, volunteer screening information, policies, and visitor follow-up.
  • Collaborate with church staff to identify future needs and develop practical plans for continued growth.

This position reports to the Director of Ministries.

Who We’re Looking For

You have a growing relationship with Jesus and a clear desire to serve children and families. You enjoy equipping others, welcome feedback, and are willing to keep learning as a leader.

You bring both initiative and vision: the ability to recognize what needs attention now and think ahead about what the ministry could become. You can turn ideas into practical steps and help a team move forward together.

We welcome applicants with school teaching experience, children’s ministry experience, or both. No teaching certification or minimum number of years is required.

Experience with Planning Center, Grow Curriculum, MinistrySafe, RingCentral, or Microsoft 365 is helpful.

Applicants may currently attend another church. The person hired must be committed to making Refuge their family’s church home and actively participating in the life of our church.
